Keeping Birds and Parrots Flighted

Hello All

Yes, it is true that flighted birds may have accidents, which some folks may attribute to their being flighted.

 

But then birds whose flight has been impaired also have accidents due to flight impairment.

Clipped birds are vulnerable to death during escape from cats, dogs and being run down by vehicles.

How Do I Handle My 2 Amazon Rescues Both With a Broken Wing?

 

 

Good Morning, I am rescuing 2 abused Amazon parrots – Male / Female.

 

Both have 1 broken wing and cannot fly.

 

Female about 4-5 years old).

 

The male (about 15 yrs) picks the top of this wing and has scabs – not healed – what can I do to promote healing?

 

From my observation, both birds are under extreme stress.

 

Please let me know what I can apply topically to prevent further picking and plucking.

How Do I Keep My Cockatiel & Conure From Flying Into Windows?

My buddy flew into the window yesterday twice and all the feathers fell out as you can see (above).

 

I figured that’s where he hit the window.

 

He was stunned and still for several hours on my lap.

 

Today he seems fine.

 

Will those feathers grow back?

 

Anything I should watch for?

 

My husband and I debate constantly about flighted vs wing-clipped birds.
