I Need Help With a Red Lored Amazon I Rescued in Panama

Tasha C. relates:

Hi, I have a red lored Amazon that is around 8 to 10 weeks.

We found him after a big storm.

We live in Panamá.

I started feeding him mashed up peas, carrots, green beans, and Lima beans.

It’s canned by the way.

Where we are they don’t carry fresh vegetables other than occasional carrots and broccoli and with the COVID we can’t get to the nearest city to get them fresh.

When I started feeding him this his poop looks like he’s not digesting it.

Is this normal!

I read that they could have worms.

I am not able to get to a store that would carry medicine.

Is there anything I can give him that is a natural remedy?

Thanks for your help.

Can you get a hold of human baby food Tasha?

Thank you, I figured out the problem.

It didn’t dawn on me that the canned vegetables had so much sodium.

I fed him scrambled eggs last night and bananas this morning and his poop is back to normal.

All that salt was making it pass right through him I’m guessing.

I managed to get some fresh carrots and broccoli today, so he will be getting that.

They carry very little baby food locally and it’s all the pureed stuff.

He’s passed that stage.

But if I couldn’t get him to eat that would definitely be a good option for syringe feeding.

Thank you for your help.

Tasha.

Nice save, Tasha!
